Seoul - Day 1.

Day 1.

It's the 1st January 2014 so a cheery New Year to you all! Spending mine rather non-traditionally. After a terrible flight with Air Asia (8 hours - no food, no water provided; thanking past me for prepping for this budget airline situation) I dragged my luggage out straight into the arms of my love, Jussy. Reuniting after a separation of six months felt wonderful. We picked up some cheap rice balls and headed to the hostel - Dustin's; located smack bang in the middle of Hongdae.

The subway had been clean, easy to take and well priced. A quick settle in (of dumping my bag, laughing hysterically at a curtain which was just a sheet of taped bubble wrap, adoring the hostel owner, Dustin and judging our foreign, cold roommates) and straight up to the roof we climbed. The strange attic was filled with all kinds of junk including this massive bag of Korean snacks usually served with beer. We helped ourselves to the stale contents and after some taste bud dissatisfaction, decided to fling them down at passersby in a whir of delirious, immature delight. I tore open a pack of tim tams Jussy and I indulged in alongside a fresh cigarette and our conversation flowed.

Soon after we ventured out to the lively street still glowing with LED signs for cafes, bars and restaurants and wackily dressed Koreans. The chill was refreshing and our brief walk of 5 storefronts to the hum of acoustic music from a busker was halted at a hookah bar. Jussy and I ordered cheap Cass beers and dragged away, laughing ourselves silly.

We eventually remembered to contact our dear Korean friend, Kathy and made a stop at the vendor where I tried sundae (blood sausage) which was fucking delicious. We met Kathy after that in a party of hugs, strolled around the area where I became impressed with the offerings of all the restaurants. We eventually decided on a restaurant/bar where we climbed up the tiniest most ridiculous staircase I've ever experienced. We ordered spicy chicken feet and washed it down with soju and beer. It was only my arriving night and I had already lost all thought regarding health but swapped many laughs in return.

That night we slept fantastically.
